"The true Birmingham Roller turns over backwards with inconceivable rapidity through a considerable distance like a spinning ball" --W. H. Pensom
History of the OFRC
After the demise of the Toronto Flying Roller Club and the Southern Ontario Roller Club, three fanciers by the name of Diego Fabris, Domenic Sansonetti and George Dring got together with the intention of creating a new flying roller club here in Ontario, Canada.
Our aim was to have a friendly club to promote the improvement in the air of the Birmingham Roller.
On March 2nd, 2014, we rented a hall in Schomberg Ont. and invited as many roller fanciers that we knew of, to attend a meeting for the purpose of organizing this club. The interest was very high, with the result that 24 members signed up the first day. We now have over 50 members and have had a few successful club flying competitions with more planned for 2023.
While flying competitions are not our main purpose, they are a good way to socialize with other roller fanciers and see how our own birds stack up against what is out there.
To try to keep everyone happy, we give our members the choice of flying in either an 11 bird fly or a 20 bird fly, as the rules they are judged by are different for each category. We also offered the members a Flying Roller Show in spring and fall, but to date there has been little interest shown by most of our members in this aspect of the hobby.
Although the yearly “World Cup Fly” has technically nothing to do with our club, we have willingly helped them out with their competitions when asked to do so by their Regional Director.
We also publish a quarterly newsletter, to try and keep our members up to date with what is happening with the roller hobby here in Ontario.
Each year we offer bands for sale to our own members only.
Yearly dues are only $20. for adults ( only $15. if you wish to receive your quarterly newsletters electronically ) and $10. for Juniors under 18. Send a cheque or money order made out to our Secretary:
